On-device processing

Your files stay yours.

Server-based converters upload your files to their machines and promise to delete them later. FreeConvert never receives them at all. Conversion happens inside your browser, on your hardware.

On-device processing

Your browser does the conversion using JavaScript and WebAssembly, the same technology behind browser games and video calls.

No file storage

We have no file storage to delete from. Files are read into your browser’s memory and released when you close the tab.

No accounts

There are no accounts and no file history. Analytics and ads load only if you accept cookies, and they never see your files.

Frequently asked questions

Is FreeConvert really free?

Yes. Every tool is free to use, with no account and no watermark. Conversion runs on your own device, so there are no server costs to pass on; ads on the site pay for hosting.

How can files be converted without uploading them?

Modern browsers can read, decode, and re-encode files locally using JavaScript and WebAssembly. Your file is opened in memory, transformed by your own processor, and handed back as a download. It is never sent to a server.

What formats are supported?

Images (JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, AVIF, HEIC, SVG), documents (PDF), video (MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV, AVI), audio (MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A, OGG), and measurement units.

Are there file size limits?

Each tool limits how many files you add at once, from 5 videos to 100 images. Beyond that, the limit is your device’s memory: photos and long PDFs work fine, but very large videos can run out of memory, especially on phones.

Do I need to create an account?

No. There are no accounts, no email sign-ups, and no watermarks. Open a tool and use it.

Why choose an in-browser file converter over server uploads?

Cloud converters upload your documents, photos, and videos to their servers, where they may sit in queues or storage. FreeConvert processes files on your own device with WebAssembly, so there is no upload to wait for and your files stay with you.
